General
Waldup is a trail and ultra running planning tool. Upload a GPX track and Waldup automatically places waypoints, calculates gradient-aware split times, and generates an interactive race plan and cheat sheet you can share with your crew or export to PDF.
Waldup is built for trail and ultra runners of all levels — from runners tackling their first trail race to experienced ultra runners chasing FKTs. If you've ever tried to plan a mountain race using a spreadsheet and a topographic map, Waldup is for you.
Yes — there is a free plan that lets you create and store up to 5 activities with the core features. Paid plans (Expert from $1.99/month, Pro from $3.99/month) unlock PDF export, additional maps, larger file sizes, and more activity storage.
Most general tools treat running as flat. Waldup was built specifically for trail and ultra running — the timing engine accounts for gradient, waypoints are placed intelligently based on the elevation profile, and the output is designed for the specific needs of mountain racing: crew coordination, section splits, and offline PDF access.
Planning & Activities
Sign in, go to Plan Activity, click New Activity, upload a GPX file or select an existing track, choose your timing method, and click Create. Waldup generates the plan in seconds.
Yes. You can create multiple activities from the same track — for example an A-goal plan (aggressive splits) and a B-goal plan (conservative). Each activity is independent; changing one doesn't affect the other.
Open the activity and click Share. You'll get a link anyone can view — no Waldup account required. Your crew can see the full plan including waypoints, split times, and your section notes. Plans are private by default; sharing is always opt-in.
Waypoints
Waldup analyses the elevation profile of your track and places waypoints at the points that matter most for trail running — typically the top of significant climbs, the start of long descents, and other key gradient changes. This is more useful for pacing than evenly spaced waypoints, which tend to fall in random spots on a trail.
Yes — all waypoints are fully editable. Drag them on the map or the elevation profile to move them. Click anywhere on the elevation profile or map to add a new one. Click a waypoint flag to delete it or rename it. All changes update the section sheet and timing estimates instantly.
Yes. Click any waypoint flag and edit the label. Use race aid station names, crew meeting points, or anything meaningful to you and your crew. Custom labels appear on the section sheet and in the PDF export.
Timing
Estimates are indicative. They account for terrain gradient, which makes them more realistic than flat-pace calculators for trail routes. However, they can't know your current fitness, the actual trail conditions on race day, weather, or technical difficulty. Always review the estimates critically and adjust based on your experience of the course.
Three modes: (1) Target time or pace — enter your goal finish time or average flat pace; (2) Reference track — use a previous activity on the same or similar route to scale your times; (3) Fully customisable — set times for each section individually.
Yes. In the section sheet, click any split cell to edit it manually. The rest of the plan adjusts automatically to reflect your changes. This is useful when you know from experience that a particular section is significantly harder or easier than the engine predicts.
Tracks & GPX
Waldup accepts standard GPX files. This covers the vast majority of route files exported from Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot, AllTrails, Wikiloc, and most GPS devices.
You can reduce the file size by simplifying the track using a tool like GPSBabel (free, open-source). Increasing the track point interval reduces the file size without significantly affecting the route or elevation data. Alternatively, upgrading to Expert (10 MB) or Pro (20 MB) gives you a higher limit.
Yes — use the Track Editor at waldup.com/plan/editor. Draw your route directly on the map by clicking to place points and dragging to snap to trails and paths. Export as GPX and then use it as the basis for a new activity.
Maps & 3D View
Free accounts have access to the standard OpenStreetMap layer. Expert and Pro accounts unlock additional layers including topographic and satellite views. Pro accounts also have access to the 3D terrain view.
Open an activity and click the 3D button in the map controls (Pro plan required). The map switches to an immersive 3D terrain view with your route and waypoints overlaid. Rotate by dragging, tilt using two fingers (or the controls), and zoom with the scroll wheel. Click 3D again to return to the standard map.
Pricing & Billing
